Claudette Massey, Principal ![]() Why should I choose Albion Elementary School for my child?
Albion Elementary is a small school in a safe, rural setting where students are given excellent, personalized instruction in all subject areas. Due to our small population, every student quickly becomes known by all of our staff members, and an effort is made to help each student feel that he or she belongs here. Our instruction is driven by on-going assessment. This allows teachers to create lessons that will meet both the individual needs of each student and the overall needs of each class while teaching the curriculum.
The Albion Elementary staff has received extensive training in teaching reading skills to students. Through our Reading Recovery program and early literacy groups we try to ensure that each and every student becomes a successful reader. Albion Elementary won the 1999 Reading Association Reading Program Award due to our comprehensive school-wide approach to teaching early literacy and reading. We were one of only 22 schools in North America to receive that honor. Since that time we have continued to work on yearly goals designed to improve instruction in all subject areas. Teachers, who are interested in improving their reading programs, have visited Albion Elementary from many other districts across the state.
As a part of MSAD #49, we have a well organized, sequential curriculum which was developed by the district's teachers. MSAD #49 updates each curriculum area yearly and incorporates both recognized national standards as well as the Maine Learning Results. The district's and school's results from local assessments, as well as the Maine Education Assessment and Terra Nova nationally-normed standardized tests are used to set goals for instructional improvement. We strive to continually improve our programs with on-going review and revision. The teachers in MSAD #49 receive a well-organized program of in-service to promote instruction that incorporates a wide array of excellent teaching practices.
Albion Elementary strives to work with parents toward providing our students with an excellent education. We will work with you as partners in the educational process.
