If You Have a PROVISIONAL Certificate,

 

YOU MUST...

 

*Have a Support Mentor that will help you assess your professional skills using the Standards outlined. 

*Select areas identified by this assessment and establish goals for professional growth.

*With the help of your Mentor , develop a Teacher Action Plan that describes the steps you will take to meet these goals over the two-year life of your certificate.

*Timeline - include list and dates of activities to be completed.

*Include in your TAP a total of three classroom observations per year by your Mentor .

*Be recommended for a Professional certificate by the Support System Steering Committee.  This recommendation will be based upon the successful completion of your TAP.

*Any course work, workshops, and projects must have prior approval.

 

AND...

 

1.        Your TAP should be initially approved no later than Oct. 20 of your first year of teaching.  The TAP must be successfully completed, and the Steering Committee’s certification recommendation must be submitted to the Commissioner of MDECS no later than April 16 of the year your Provisional certificate expires.

 

        2.       The Steering Committee may recommend that the Initial Professional Certificate be                      awarded or denied or, with the agreement of the superintendent, it may recommend that

                  the Provisional Certificate be renewed for up to two years.
