MONEY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT ARE CHILDREN OF VETERANS
If one of your parents is a Veteran and was determined to be 100% disabled as a result of military service, you could be receiving over $900 each month while you attend High School. You must be at least 18 years old to receive this money. This is known as Chapter 35 of the GI Bill. Madison Paper Industries is offering full tuition scholarship to KVCC for their 2 year Pulp and Paper Technology Degree Program. For more information see Guidance.
AnyCollege.com is a college search engine that lists over 5,500 accredited colleges and universities in the U.S. Students may search for a college by program, school type, location or athletic interest. With the student’s interest in mind, the website is free for everyone to use and requires no registration. Students may also sign up to win a $2,000 scholarship awarded four times each year. Deadlines are March 31st, June 30th, September 30th and December 31st of each year. Go to www.AnyCollege.com and click on “Win a Scholarship” to sign up to win.
Spurwink Services is pleased to announce the Peter McPherson Scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Eligible candidates must be currently or were previously enrolled in a Spurwink Services Residential or Day Treatment Program for Youth for the period of at least one calendar or academic year. Maine State Grange has a $500 scholarship for one or more students who will be majoring in the agricultural field. Due date is April 30th.
Waterville Sunrise Rotary Club has a $1,000 scholarship for one student from one of the four area high schools. Lawrence High will submit one finalist and a panel will choose the winner from one of the four schools. Essay topic is “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands”. See guidance for more information. Scholarship applications are due in to guidance by April 30th.
The Waterville Women’s Association has scholarships for women who are residents of Waterville, Fairfield, Winslow or Oakland and plan to pursue post-secondary education in Maine in the next academic year. Deadline is May 1st. See guidance for application

FAME- Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship for $1,500 is a merit-based, federally funded, renewable scholarship for graduating high school seniors. In addition, to completing FAME’s primary application, students must file a FAFSA by May 1st, be a Maine resident, demonstrate academic rigor and community service involvement and submit a 200 word essay. Deadline is May 1st.
Maine Masonic Lodge has a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to $1,500 available to a student from Lawrence High School with preference to a student going to a Community College. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Beal College has scholarships available for students who intend to enroll at Beal for the fall of 2010. Deadline is May 1st.
National Association of Women in Construction Chapter 276 has scholarships for high school seniors who will be enrolling in a post-secondary program in a construction related course. Recipients of the scholarship will be eligible to receive from $500 to $1000. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Lawrence High School Band Boosters Scholarship applications are available in guidance. Student must have been a member of the Lawrence High School Band (Concert, Marching, Color Guard or Pit Crew). They will be awarding two $250 scholarships. Deadline is May 1st.
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers renewable, 4-year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a commitment to serving others in school, the community or at home and a strong work ethic. Awards are limited to residents of New England states. Visit the website www.phillips-scholarship.org for detailed information and to download application. Deadline is May 1st.
The Guy Patterson Memorial Athletic Scholarship is for a student that is graduating from Lawrence High School that has participated in a Varsity Sport. Scholarship is for $750. Please see guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Boys and Girls Club has a $500 scholarship for a student that displays: academics, volunteerism, and extracurricular activities and is a present or past member of Boys and Girls Club and YMCA Member. Due date is May 1st.
There are several scholarships available through the Somerset County 4-H Association. Applicant must be a member or former member of a Somerset 4-H club. Guidelines are in guidance. Deadline is May 1st.
Sappi Somerset is offering $500 scholarship to a student that has been accepted to a two or four year college. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and have at least a B average and participated in community service. Deadline is May 3rd.
Sebasticook Lodge #145 has a $500 scholarship for a senior student from Clinton or Benton. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 7th.
The Becky Beane Scholarship Application is available in the guidance office. Students with an overall high school grade point average of at least a B, who attended Benton Elementary for at least one full year, participated in community service volunteering and who is attending college may apply. Deadline is May 14th.
Kennebec Federal Savings is offering four $500 scholarships to students who reside within the KFS service area (generally a 20 mile radius of Waterville) and will be graduating in 2010. Student must be accepted as a full time student in a two or four year degree program at a Maine college and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. Deadline is May 14th.
Ninety Nine Restaurant has $5000 scholarship for a student that is majoring in Hospitality or Business Management that is also a member of the Boys and Girls Club. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 15th.
Central Maine Fire Attack School is offering a scholarship to a student that is pursuing a career in fire science or emergency medical technician. See guidance for more information and application. Deadline is May 15th.
FAME-Educators for Maine Program has $3,000 annual awards (renewable up to $12,000) for Maine students pursuing careers in teaching, including speech pathology and child development, who intend to work in Maine after completing their education. In addition they must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grade school and demonstrate academic rigor and community service involvement. Application may be downloaded at www.famemaine.com. See guidance for more information. Application must be postmarked by May 15th.
The Humane Society of the U.S./Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship is awarding New England High School senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection a $2,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 15th.
The Meta R. Fowler Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to a Lawrence High School senior or a continuing college student who graduated from MSAD 49. This person must be pursuing a career in teaching at a four year university or college. Special consideration will be given to Albion residents. Student will need a current transcript, one letter of recommendation and a 100 – 200 word essay telling about yourself and why you want to be a teacher. Deadline is May 20th.
Maine Sports Legends scholar/athlete committee is seeking nominations for eight scholarship recipients, one male and one female, in each of four geographic areas of the state. The scholar/athlete applicants shall demonstrate athletic ability plus scholarship, leadership, character and community service. See guidance for more information. Deadline is May 20th.
Student Award Search Aid has developed a website that is designed to offer tips and suggestions on how to approach the process of acquiring scholarships. The main purpose of the website is to assist students in their efforts to continue their education. They are awarding the “B. Davis Scholarship for $1,000. Lamey Wellehan “The Maine Difference” program has a $1,000 renewable scholarship for a student that is committed to improving Maine’s Economy and/or environment. The student must be enrolling at a Maine College or University. Application is information is in guidance. Deadline is May 30th.
Portland Sea Dogs are announcing their “NextGen Field of Dreams Scholarship” for three deserving students. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded; one to each of the following grade level groups: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The goal of the Sea Dogs Scholarship Program is to inspire all students to go to college. Essay is required. See guidance for more information. Deadline is June 18th.
Abbot and Fenner Business Consultants are offering $1,000 scholarship. Students need to submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of their website: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is June 19th

Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering three $500 scholarships to incoming male students to the University of Maine, Orono. The scholarship criteria will be based on leadership, athletics, scholarship and gentlemanly behavior traits they believe allow a college man to enjoy a balanced lifestyle. There is no obligation to join Sigma Epsilon Fraternity at any point during or after the scholarship procedure. Applications are online at http://www.umainesigep.org and deadline is July 15th.
AES Engineers is offering $500 scholarships for high school seniors or college students (regardless of courses being studied) who meet certain criteria. Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of two questions that are posted on the site: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is October 6th.
The Gallery Collection's 4th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest has officially begun. They are offering students a chance to win $10,000 towards their education plus a $1,000 award for their school! Entering the contest is easy! Students must submit a unique photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. The student with the best design will win a $10,000 scholarship and have his/her design made into an actual card to be sold in our line.
