MONEY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT ARE CHILDREN OF VETERANS
If one of your parents is a Veteran and was determined to be 100% disabled as a result of military service, you could be receiving over $900 each month while you attend High School. You must be at least 18 years old to receive this money. This is known as Chapter 35 of the GI Bill. Madison Paper Industries is offering full tuition scholarship to KVCC for their 2 year Pulp and Paper Technology Degree Program. For more information see Guidance.
AnyCollege.com is a college search engine that lists over 5,500 accredited colleges and universities in the U.S. Students may search for a college by program, school type, location or athletic interest. With the student’s interest in mind, the website is free for everyone to use and requires no registration. Students may also sign up to win a $2,000 scholarship awarded four times each year. Deadlines are March 31st, June 30th, September 30th and December 31st of each year. Go to www.AnyCollege.com and click on “Win a Scholarship” to sign up to win.
Hood Good Sport Scholarship is looking for student athletes who participated in a varsity level sport and who will be furthering their education by attending a two or four year accredited college or university in the fall. Students must have earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community to be eligible. To apply, applicants will be asked to write a short essay explaining why they are a good sport on and off the field. Students must apply online at Hood.com by March 19th at 3:00 p.m.
WMTW Channel 8 is pleased to announce Bob Eliot News 8 Scholarship for $1,500 for a student entering journalism or a related field. Deadline is March 23rd.
Alpha One is offering a “Powering Education” Scholarship to assist students with disabilities. This scholarship will provide awards of $2,000 each to 3 selected candidates for post-secondary school education including both undergraduate college education and graduate programs. Deadline is March 26th.
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund is for students that have a 2.5 GPA or better. Students must matriculate at a U.S. accredited four-year college or university full time during the school year 2010 – 2011 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community services, extracurricular or other activities. An essay is required. See guidance for application. Deadline is March 31st.
The Senator George Mitchell Scholarship for $5,000 is open to any senior who plans to enter college in the fall in a two or four year degree program in state. A few scholarships are available to students who plan to go out of state. The criteria are academic potential, community service and financial need. The Mitchell Scholarship Program awards a scholarship to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine each year. Deadline is April 1st.
Margaret Chase Smith Library is pleased to announce the topic of its fourteenth annual essay contest. In light of the current debate, they invite eligible students to offer their opinions on what they think ought to be done to reform and improve the American medical system. The contest is open to Maine High School Seniors only and the Library will award $500 for first place, $250 for second place, $125 for third and five $25 honorable mention prizes. Trooper Jeffrey S. Parola Foundation Award is for students pursuing a post-secondary education in the field of Law Enforcement. The Board has refocused its scholarship monies to a scholarship program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Applications must be submitted online at www.jeffreysparolafoundation.org. Deadline is April 1st.
Eastern Maine Chapter #329 of the National Association of Women in Construction has a $250 scholarship for a male or female high school senior interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry. See guidance for application. Deadline is April 1st.
Redington Fairview Hospital is announcing the Daniel S. Salisbury Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. Students who will be pursuing careers in physical therapy, occupation therapy or speech-language pathology are encouraged to apply. Applications may be obtained by calling Gloria Pease at 207-858-2303. Deadline is April 1st.
Maine Innkeepers Association has a scholarship available for students who have been accepted to fully accredited schools and are pursuing a career in the hospitality industry. See guidance for application. Deadline is April 9th.
The Ruffed Grouse Society is pleased to offer two $3,000 scholarships to deserving students who will be continuing their education in the fields of Wildlife Conservation, Conservation Law Enforcement or Forest Management. Student must intend to become a practitioner in one of the above-mentioned fields, preferably in the state of Maine. Application is available electronically on the Ruffed Grouse Society website: www.ruffedgrousemaine.com or in guidance. Deadline is April 9th.
Waterville Rotary Club has a $1,000 scholarship for one student from each of the area schools. Applicant needs to have at least a B average, participated in community service and demonstrate financial need. Deadline is April 9th.
Kennebec County Medical Society is sponsoring an essay contest for students in their Junior or Senior year of high school. Essay topic is “An Important Health Issue for Teenagers in the World Today”. For a list of awards and guidelines see guidance. Deadline is April 9th.
Maine Driver Education Association is offering two $500 scholarships for students pursuing post high school education in any field. One scholarship is for any resident of Maine and the other is for the MEDEA member’s family only. Student must have been instructed in Driver Education by a member of MEDEA. Deadline is April 15th.
The Arthritis Foundation is offering three, $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors or college undergraduates with juvenile arthritis or another rheumatic disease. Students must be a resident of ME, CT, NH, RI, VT, Clinton, Essex or Franklin County, NY. Deadline is April 17th. Applications are available by e-mail at info.nne@arthritis.org or by fax at 603-224-3778.
Maine Education Services (MES) has several scholarships available; Maine Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund, Maine State Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, Maine Metal Products Association Scholarship and the Richard H. Peirce Family Foundation Scholarship Fund (students of Somerset County only). Students can apply for multiple scholarships by completing one application online at www.mesfoundation.com. Application deadline is April 16th.
Maine State Employees Association has scholarships available for students that are related to a dues paying MSEA member. Dependents of school teachers are not eligible. Applications are available in guidance or may be downloaded at www.mseaseiu.org. Deadline is April 16th.
Waterville Business and Professional Women have several scholarships available for young women. The scholarships are available for $1,200 each for a student who will be attending college in the fall of 2010. The Pearl Ramsey Scholarship for $400 is available for a student enrolling in a nursing program. See guidance for more information. Deadline is April 20th.
Spurwink Services is pleased to announce the Peter McPherson Scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Eligible candidates must be currently or were previously enrolled in a Spurwink Services Residential or Day Treatment Program for Youth for the period of at least one calendar or academic year. Maine State Grange has a $500 scholarship for one or more students who will be majoring in the agricultural field. Due date is April 30th.
Waterville Sunrise Rotary Club has a $1,000 scholarship for one student from one of the four area high schools. Lawrence High will submit one finalist and a panel will choose the winner from one of the four schools. Essay topic is “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands”. See guidance for more information. The Waterville Women’s Association has scholarships for women who are residents of Waterville, Fairfield, Winslow or Oakland and plan to pursue post-secondary education in Maine in the next academic year. Deadline is May 1st. See guidance for application.
FAME- Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship for $1,500 is a merit-based, federally funded, renewable scholarship for graduating high school seniors. In addition, to completing FAME’s primary application, students must file a FAFSA by May 1st, be a Maine resident, demonstrate academic rigor and community service involvement and submit a 200 word essay. Deadline is May 1st.
Maine Masonic Lodge has a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to $1,500 available to a student from Lawrence High School with preference to a student going to a Community College. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Beal College has scholarships available for students who intend to enroll at Beal for the fall of 2010. Deadline is May 1st.
National Association of Women in Construction Chapter 276 has scholarships for high school seniors who will be enrolling in a post-secondary program in a construction related course. Recipients of the scholarship will be eligible to receive from $500 to $1000. See guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Lawrence High School Band Boosters Scholarship applications are available in guidance. Student must have been a member of the Lawrence High School Band (Concert, Marching, Color Guard or Pit Crew). They will be awarding two $250 scholarships. Deadline is May 1st.
The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers renewable, 4-year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a commitment to serving others in school, the community or at home and a strong work ethic. Awards are limited to residents of New England states. Visit the website www.phillips-scholarship.org for detailed information and to download application. Deadline is May 1st.
The Guy Patterson Memorial Athletic Scholarship is for a student that is graduating from Lawrence High School that has participated in a Varsity Sport. Scholarship is for $750. Please see guidance for application. Deadline is May 1st.
Boys and Girls Club has a $500 scholarship for a student that displays: academics, volunteerism, and extracurricular activities and is a present or past member of Boys and Girls Club and YMCA Member. Due date is May 1st.
There are several scholarships available through the Somerset County 4-H Association. Applicant must be a member or former member of a Somerset 4-H club. Guidelines are in guidance. Deadline is May 1st.
Sappi Somerset is offering $500 scholarship to a student that has been accepted to a two or four year college. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and have at least a B average and participated in community service. Deadline is May 3rd.
FAME-Educators for Maine Program has $3,000 annual awards (renewable up to $12,000) for Maine students pursuing careers in teaching, including speech pathology and child development, who intend to work in Maine after completing their education. In addition they must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 grade school and demonstrate academic rigor and community service involvement. The Humane Society of the U.S./Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship is awarding New England High School senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection a $2,000 scholarship. Deadline is May 15th.
The Meta R. Fowler Scholarship is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to a Lawrence High School senior or a continuing college student who graduated from MSAD 49. This person must be pursuing a career in teaching at a four year university or college. Special consideration will be given to Albion residents. Student will need a current transcript, one letter of recommendation and a 100 – 200 word essay telling about yourself and why you want to be a teacher. Deadline is May 20th.
Maine Sports Legends scholar/athlete committee is seeking nominations for eight scholarship recipients, one male and one female, in each of four geographic areas of the state. The scholar/athlete applicants shall demonstrate athletic ability plus scholarship, leadership, character and community service. See guidance for more information. Deadline is May 20th.
Student Award Search Aid has developed a website that is designed to offer tips and suggestions on how to approach the process of acquiring scholarships. The main purpose of the website is to assist students in their efforts to continue their education. They are awarding the “B. Davis Scholarship for $1,000. Portland Sea Dogs are announcing their “NextGen Field of Dreams Scholarship” for three deserving students. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded; one to each of the following grade level groups: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The goal of the Sea Dogs Scholarship Program is to inspire all students to go to college. Essay is required. See guidance for more information. Deadline is June 18th.
Abbot and Fenner Business Consultants are offering $1,000 scholarship. Students need to submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page of their website: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is June 19th.
AES Engineers is offering $500 scholarships for high school seniors or college students (regardless of courses being studied) who meet certain criteria. Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of two questions that are posted on the site: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Deadline is October 6th.
