SCHOLARSHIPS
AnyCollege.com is a college search engine that lists over 5,500 accredited colleges and universities in the U.S. Students may search for a college by program, school type, location or athletic interest. With the student’s interest in mind, the website is free for everyone to use and requires no registration. Students may also sign up to win a $2,000 scholarship awarded four times each year. Deadlines are March 31st, June 30th, September 30th and December 31st of each year. Go to www.AnyCollege.com and click on “Win a Scholarship” to sign up to win.
The Christian Connector provides a free Christian college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawing. Students can simply log onto www.christianconnector.com to requestion information and automatically be entered in the $2,500 scholarship drawing.
Simon Youth Foundation at the Bangor Mall awards a post-secondary scholarship to a local high school senior who demonstrates both financial need and a strong commitment to his or her education and community. Enrollment for 2009 seniors starts on October 1, 2008. Applicants can apply online at www.syf.org.
Boston University has several scholarships available to students. If you are thinking of applying to BU see guidance for more information. You must have your application and scholarship materials in by December 1st.
The Society of Automotive Engineers is offering scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and the related sciences. Deadline is December 1st. Students are encouraged to retrieve the application and information on line at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm
AXA Achievement Scholarship in association with U.S. News and World Report is awarding scholarships nationwide to well rounded students that have achieved excellence outside the classroom. To qualify you must demonstrate: ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community and ability to succeed in college. Go to www.axa-achievement.com to learn more about the scholarship program and to download an application. Apply by December 15th.
The Elks National Foundation has scholarships available ranging from $60,000 ($15,000 per year) to $4,000 ($1,000 per year). Applicants should be involved in community and school activities with some leadership roles and should also demonstrate financial need. This competitive scholarship includes a 500 word essay. Applications should be dropped off at the Waterville Elks Lodge by January 9, 2009. Also available through the Elks is the Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards. Student must be a child or grandchild of an Elk who joined on or before April 1, 2006 . Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships. Deadline is also January 9, 2009.
Skidmore College Department of Music is pleased to announce the Filene Foundation Music Competition. The competition is open to high school seniors specifically interested in pursuing a liberal arts education at Skidmore. Student need not be majoring in music. Eligible students must meet the criteria for admissions to Skidmore, a highly selective institution that enjoys a rich tradition in music. Winners will be awarded a $40,000 four-year scholarship ($10,000 each year). Deadline is January 15, 2009.
The Gallery Collectionis announcing their Create-A-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest. The entrant who creates the best greeting card will win a $10,000 scholarship and have his or her design made into a greeting card and sold in their line. The contest is open to both high school and college students that are 14 years of age or older at the time of entry. Plum Creek Community Scholarship Program is for high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school. Children of dependents of Plum Creek employees are not eligible for Plum Creek Community Scholarship Program. Scholarship is for $1,000 and deadline is January 31st.
The McKelvey Foundation is offering an Entrepreneurial Scholarship for students who own their own business. Scholarship is up to $10,000 per year for all four years. Students must own business for at least a year, have at least one paid employee, graduate from high school in 2009 and can go to any four year college or university within the 50 states. Apply online at www.mckelveyfoundation.org and click on the Entrepreneurial Scholarship section. Deadline is January 25th.
The Maine Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers is pleased to announce two $2,000 scholarships available for two outstanding Maine high school seniors who plan a career in civil engineering. See guidance for more information. Deadline is January 31st, 2009.
The Clyde Russell Scholarships are highly competitive scholarships. There are two categories; one for students who will attend a four year college and one for students who will attend a Maine Community College. In granting the awards, the Trustees will consider personal traits and qualities, extra-curricular activities, community activities, academic ability and motivation, and personal traits. Deadline is February 1st.
National Commission for Cooperative Education has scholarships for students who are applying to co-op programs. Students should visit website at www.co-op.edu for application. An essay is required. Deadline is February 15th.
American Lung Association is offering two $500 scholarships to eligible students who are involved in the game of golf (either as players or employees of a golf facility), and who are pursuing to further their education in health education or promotion, medical or environmental fields. Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, references and must be a non-tobacco user. Deadline is March 15th, 2009.
The Humane Society of the U.S. Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship is awarding a New England High School senior who has made a meaningful contribution to animal protection a $2,000 scholarship. Deadline is March 16th.
WMTW Channel 8 has a scholarship of $1,500 for a student who plans to major in journalism, communications or a related field. Student must write a 500 word essay. Deadline is March 24th.
Maine Educational Secretaries Association is awarding four scholarships of $500 each to a student who has been accepted to a two or four year post-secondary educational program. Must be referred by a MESA member or have a member in his/her school district and demonstrate financial need. Deadline is April 10th.
The Joseph B. Ezhaya Memorial Scholarship is being sponsored by the Mid Maine Chamber of Commerce. Applicants should share Joe’s interest in citizenship, community service and exemplify his spirit. Student must maintain a C average or better and complete an essay on citizenship. Deadline is April 27th.
Business Education Association of Maine is offering a scholarship for a student that has been accepted in a business education program at a post-secondary school offering a Bachelor of Science degree. They are also offering one scholarship for a student who is the child or ward of a business education teacher currently teaching in a public or private school in the State of Maine, possess appropriate certification, and hold current membership in BEAM. Applications must be postmarked by April 30th.
Big Sun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits by offering a $500 scholarship. The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution. The New England Patriots and Fidelity Investments are launching the 2009 Write On Scholarship competition. If you are between the ages of 13-18 and love the Patriots, simply write a 500 – 750 word essay about the most recent Patriots game. After every 4-game stretch on the Patriots schedule, one first place winner will receive a $5,000 college scholarship, two second place winners will be awarded $2,500, and six third place winners will receive $1,000 in scholarship money. At the conclusion of the season, all previous first place winners and others who qualify will be eligible to win the $15,000 grand prize, the $10,000 runner-up prize or the $5,000 honorable mention prize.
