March 20, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Staff,

Please be aware that I am closing our schools through April 27.  As we receive more guidance and directives from government officials, we may adjust this date.  We understand that our community is experiencing a difficult situation—our most immediate work is focused on trying to meet the essential needs of our students. We will continue to provide our nutrition program at all school sites. As a reminder, meals are available to all children from the age of 0 to 18 and expecting mothers. They will be able to pick up a free breakfast and lunch Monday thru Friday from 9:00 AM to 11 AM at any school. The Alfond Youth Center will also be handing out free meals from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Fairfield Community Center. Additionally, we are developing a plan to begin meal deliveries by early next week. District households will be receiving information about the delivery schedule.

Our teachers and principals will continue to post resources on our website for those families who want to continue to engage their child with the suggested opportunities.  These resources are listed on our website at, and organized by school.  By next Wednesday, K – 3 resource packets will be distributed to families. Grades 4 – 12 students and families will see a more developed set of online resources with suggested schedules for students to follow.  Principals and teachers will be working together to facilitate more direct communication between students and teachers—families will receive more specific information from building principals about the forum the school will use.  Please contact the school if you should have further questions. Though these efforts do not replace classroom instruction, this is an opportunity to engage with our students productively and supportively.

The District continues to follow guidance from the CDC and the Maine Department of Education as it is updated. You may find information on our website, understanding though that the situation is ever-changing. We encourage people to take all CDC-recommended precautions and remain current with information. Though the school buildings and office will remain closed, we will continue to answer phone calls to assist in any way we are able to. The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and families remain our top priority—I wish you all good health.

Thank you.
