December 11 COVID-19 update

December 11, 2020

Dear Staff, Students, and Families,

I am writing to inform you of another positive case of COVID-19 reported by a staff member at Benton Elementary School.  Principal Wedge was in contact with the Maine DOE school nurse liaison, and I have notified a Maine CDC school liaison. This individual has not had contact with students or staff during the infectious period of the illness. We are informing the school community for your awareness—fortunately in this case, there is no impact to others at Benton Elementary School.

Again, we appreciate families and staff immediately informing the school when an individual receives notification of a positive result. Please continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, call a health care provider if symptoms start, and stay home if you are sick.

On a positive note, Somerset County  is now coded “green” in the MDOE categorization system of Risk Levels for Maine Schools —implications and updates from Lawrence High School administration to follow regarding athletic and co-curricular activities.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued vigilance.

Stay safe and be well.

Roberta Hersom

Superintendent of Schools
