*MSAD#49 is currently looking for a special education teacher to work in the district’s elementary behavior program. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing weekly social skills lessons individualized to student’s current behavioral needs and abilities
  • Providing direction and supervision to education technicians throughout the day and assisting with behavioral escalations as needed
  • Overseeing daily staff meetings to review student progress and address any behavioral concerns before they arise
  • Assisting teachers with managing student’s behavior in accordance with student’s IEP by consulting regularly (or as required by individual student’s IEP)
  • When necessary, working with students in a self-contained or 1:1 setting
  • Providing academic, small group instruction for students who are unable to access resource room or classroom due to behavioral or safety concerns
  • Collaborating and meeting weekly with day treatment agency in district to ensure that student’s needs are being met both academically and behaviorally
  • Taking behavioral data and charting it daily to demonstrate behavioral progress or
  • regression
  • Processing with students after an escalation and creating a plan to reenter back into
  • programming
  • Utilizing Safety-Care techniques and supervising staff when they are using physical
  • management
  • Taking the Safety-Care Train the Trainer class in order to train district employees
  • who need recertification yearly
  • Leading all IEP meetings for students with emotional and behavioral needs and
  • completing all special education paperwork required
  • Completing classroom observations as needed and giving recommendations to teachers on how to best meet the behavioral needs of the student
  • Working with teachers regarding students who may be struggling socially or
  • behaviorally and creating a plan that includes data tracking and incentive before starting the referral process
  • Creating or revising Behavior Intervention Plans for every student in the behavior
  • program
  • Conducting FBA’s as needed to better understand the function of a student’s
  • behavior
  • Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities as well as knowledge of ABA and PBIS is highly desired. Preference given to candidates with BCBA background.
