Dear Staff, Students, and Families,
I am writing to inform you of three positive cases of COVID-19—one involving a student at Lawrence High School, one involving a student at Lawrence Junior High School, and one involving a staff member at Benton Elementary School. All three cases have been reported to both the Maine DOE and the Maine CDC. No individual involved has had contact with other students or staff in any of these school buildings during the infectious period as each individual has been out of their respective schools during this time, and as further clarified by MDOE and MCDC personnel, including an epidemiologist. Again, we are fortunate in each of these cases that no other individual associated with the schools is deemed a close contact.
We believe these updates, even though no other individuals are involved, are important for the community’s understanding of the current health environment in our area. We will continue to provide timely updates to staff, students and families as frequently as needed. We are most appreciative of families’ notification of COVID-19 illness or exposure in households. Please be reminded that mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing help to abate the spread of COVID-19 in our schools. We urge all to continue to monitor for symptoms of illness, and if you encounter exposure please follow the recommendations of the Maine CDC, call a health care provider if symptoms start, and stay home if you are sick.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Stay safe and be well.
Superintendent of Schools
