Eclipse Safety

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

On April 8, 2024, a rare celestial event will occur as a total solar eclipse passes through Maine.  Though most of our students will be home or on their way home during the eclipse, we want to ensure that students not only have the opportunity to appreciate this rare occurrence but understand how to do so safely.  The District is providing students with certified solar eclipse glasses that meet CE & ISO viewer safety standards and instructions on how to use them properly by reviewing MDOE resources provided to our educators. Eye safety is important, and we will be sure to explain to students that viewing the eclipse should not be done without proper eyewear. We encourage parents to share this same message with their children and appreciate your support as we provide ideas and resources for safely viewing the solar eclipse.

Please enjoy this awe-invoking event that reminds us that we are all part of this beautiful Universe!

Sincerely,

Roberta Hersom

Superintendent of Schools
